English Storytelling Reflection.

Storytelling, at least from my point of view, has always been a very under-appreciated part of things. Whether it’s serious or just an instance of recounting fun, it’s had an impact on my whole life so far.

Through the course of this unit in class, we’ve looked at many different ways to tell the same story, based on perspective, deductions and observation, which usually differs from person to person. We looked at how to share stories in just six words. This, in particular, was something I truly enjoyed doing, because I admired the way one could share so much, with so many inferences, so much derived meaning, in just a few words.

When the topic of journalism came up, we discussed the various responsibilities that a journalist has on their shoulders, whether it is to report without any bias or to make sure they don’t offend the parties involved. We looked at the different types of journalism, and the duties they entail.

During our analysis of the school’s articles about its various divisions and functions, my partner and I observed that the website had a lot of bias, which promoted the school. This was reasonable, as we took into consideration their audience – which consisted of a lot of parents of prospective students, therefore it seems only fair that they tailor their content to fit the situation.
