English Writer’s Fortnight Reflection.

Throughout the two weeks of Writer’s Fortnight, there were some recurring themes that were discussed in separate sessions. It was an eye-opening experience for me and pretty much anyone I spoke to about it.

I feel that a lot of what we learnt from the speakers was very personal and definitely difficult for them to share with us. The one discussion that I felt was very emotional and unsettling was ‘Free Sam’, which followed the story of a young boy caught in the crossfire of his parents’ toxic relationship breakdown. Ms Barb was very open about the issues she faced, but she shared it all, even through tears at one point.

I’ve seen the repeated theme of mental health as an issue, with Ms Hanna Alkaf( post pregnancy disorder) as well as with Ms Barb(mentally unstable daughter). I’ve decided to pursue this topic further because there’s a lot of potential for an article. Using the material I already have, I can branch out into different topics of interest.
