MODEL UNITED NATIONS

Week 1: sign ups open

Week 2: activities allocated

Week 3: Activities begin. For creativity this term, I signed up for Model United Nations. It is not something new to me as I have a years experience of this in grade 9. I really like this activity as It gives me an opportunity to research and debate about ongoing issues or issues that I actually care about. My strengths are research, good memory and argument construction. My weakness in this however, is my confidence and my actual expression of ideas which is something I hope to improve by the end of this year.

Level 2 (challenge) : This last MUN conference, I took a huge risk which was main submitting a resolution for the first time on my second conference. This was a risk mainly because I usually have issues in expressing myself and main subbing meant that I’d be challenged by other delegates at every turn. I handled most of the aspects of this challenge well ; managing my group of delegates and assigning tasks, writing and editing clauses, explaining their purpose through real life examples ect. However, there were times when I struggled with  answering tricky questions and getting caught off-guard which is why that is something I still need to work on. I improved in confidence in all 3 days as I went from barely speaking on the first day to speaking a lot on the last. Along with this, my reso passed with only one against vote from a group of 16. I think because of my contributions this conference, I was moved up to intermediate 2 which is another challenge as I will now take part in harder committees with better delegates. The most important skill is confidence and it takes a leap of faith to get up to the podium ti sttae your point but also gives you a sense of accomplishment when you do.
