The overall aim of the service was to introduce new ideas and depict interpretations of topics within a junior schools curriculum. While planning, we took into account the children’s overall level of understanding and interests and therefore chose books accordingly. A challenge that we faced was how to make the story telling as interactive as possible to make it as enjoyable an engaging for the children, and make it practicle in an online environment. To overcome this, we brainstormed ideas based on what would look as visually appealing as possible, and then settled on the idea of cutting paper animals in the story out and moving them dynamically. We also assigned characters to keep the session flowing smoothly. Because of some technical difficulties, it was a bit hard to connect with the children, but we then decided on questioning them about their knowledge of the topic (animals) as well as the book they read as they were really eager to answer! It was extremely satisfying to see the kids so engaged in the story, especially due to the difficulties that we faced, and I am excited to tell stories around the the topic of chinese new year in the coming month.
