Organising the Purple Parade

Learning outcome 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.

Learning outcome 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively.

Upon reading research during our service sessions, we came across the Purple Parade, “Singapore’s Largest Movement to SupportInclusion & Celebrate Abilities of Person’s with Special Needs.

During a later session, we were tasked with brainstorming ideas for indirect service as our services partnering with local services HWA Supports The Purple Parade 2019 – Handicaps Welfare Associationhave been indefinitely cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. One of our aims is to raise awareness about People With Intellectual Disabilities (PWIDs). I first suggested the idea of celebrating the Purple Parade in our school, at a campus level. As a team our service built on this idea and communicated with the Heads of Service to ensure the feasibility of carrying out this project given that we had to abruptly switch to remote learning towards the end of season 3.

Planning the Purple Parade with my service team during these unprecedented times have not been easy as we now have to meet via Google Meet. It also has been a bit demotivating as the covid-19 pandemic worsens and lockdown measures get stricter. I travelled back home just before schools closed for Easter Break and I am feeling ever so disconnected. However, as a team we have discussed our ideas and have run them through Mr Hannah. We have also prepared presentations for when we get back to school and hopefully celebrate this day.
