So far, I am very much enjoying the Yearbook club. I am part of the journalism team and have been thoroughly enjoying it. Our team gets to decide which events we want a write-up or a quote for, and whom to ask for that. I have already written up a few quotes for Hair for Hope, and I am working on collecting in quotes for the NIDA Theatre trip and the Candide production, as I am part of both. Our team requires a lot of collaboration, though, because we only have 5 people. In that group, one is from Grade 9, one is from Grade 12, and the rest are Grade 11’s. This makes it difficult to have a wide spread of quotes collected from all the grades.
#LO 5:
- Who did I collaborate with? What made it easy or difficult to work together?
- My entire team, however, it was quite annoying at times because every session, someone would be missing from the meeting, which made working as a team, already small enough, much harder. Although, something nice was that everyone was up to getting work done when they were there. There were no distractions and it was much easier to work together as everyone had the same mindset and same goal, thanks to our team leader, Mallika from Grade 11.
- What challenges did we face when working together?
- Of course, there was the “not everyone shows up every session”, but other than that, we found it incredibly hard to get more 10th Grade quotes, as none of us were from that grade, but we did know connections in our own grades.
- How did we overcome them? Why couldn’t we overcome some challenges?
- We are still trying to get more 10th grade perspectives, so we’ve tried to look for 10th graders in our activity, but to our surprise, there were none. We are still trying to get more perspectives through a Grade 10 friend Mallika has, but she hasn’t updated us on that yet.
- How important was collaboration to achieving the outcome or my goal?
- Very important, as we only have 5 people. This could not be done alone, as there are so many events to choose quotes for. It is also especially important because we don’t want to be biased in which events we choose to get quotes or write-ups. Because of this, we need all the teamwork and group members we can get.
- What could I do in the future to bee a more effective team player?
- Considering there are such little people and so much to do, I think the best way I can help is always coming on time and starting work straight away, even if the team leader isn’t here yet (we have been waiting for her to come before we start the meetings) As well as this, I think I could talk to the Grade 10’s in my other activities and services to see if they would be interested in helping us out.
Great idea to connect your reflections with the CAS LOs. You mention that there is a large amount of work but not too many people to get the work done. What strategies could you show to work effectively? Do you have meetings about the team’s progress? Is there somewhere that documents tasks so that everyone knows what to do?
