Writers Fortnight 2020 Day 2

On the first day of Writers Fortnight, I listened to two very interesting stories from other teachers in UWC. The first story was about growing up in a single-parent family in rural Ireland, and about how the speaker’s mother risked everything for her. This story was about how the speaker was affected by her father’s death (when she was 4), even though she barely even remembered him. This story took place in the late 80s. the speaker was saying how people in school and even church bullied her because she came from an ‘abnormal’ family, where her mum had to work.

The second story was about living with elephants in the Okavango Delta. The speaker was a teacher in UWC who took a break to go and work with elephants in Botswana. The speaker mainly talked about how the elephants in the area were affected by poachers and how the NGO that she worked with helped to protect elephants and also educate kids in villages about these elephants.

I think that the day was very productive and full of very interesting stories from which I can write very interesting articles about.

  1. “full of very interesting stories from which I can write very interesting articles about.”

Maybe you could expand on how the stories were interesting. Also, I like how the talks have inspired you to write more articles.

Have you written any yet and if you haven’t, when will you?

  2. I think its interesting that not only was she helping stop poachers but also educating kids. How does this story make you feel?
