Boxing S1

1st October – The sessions were tiring as I haven’t done exercise in a while and was out of shape. We did punching and kicking. There was a bit of cardio when we were punching at the bags rapidly. I would get stitches because I was pushing myself to be better. The sessions before this one were introducing boxing to the new people within this activity, the basics of punching and blocking and shadowboxing. I chose boxing because it was a great way to increase my fitness. I decided to do this activity once a week because I wanted to have more time to study at home, homework and to not be overloaded at the start of the year.

15th October  – The people in the activity were split into 2 sides, those that wanted to do Muay Thai and those that wanted to do boxing. I chose boxing because I wanted to do something simple because I was having a headache that day. However, after the October break I will try to push myself and do something more active so I will try do Muay Thai that session (which includes leg work and kicking). This session, we did a bit of cardio (aka. punching actively on the bags). It was a bit like circuit training because we were having stations and rotated every 2 mins. We did some wall sits while punching, we did shadowboxing and had to move towards or away from the opponent to keep a constant distance. Towards the end, we did some core exercises like 20 sit ups, planks, scissors, superman and other exercises. I need to learn how to wrap my hands though because I still mess it up and need to ask others for help so I will try to search up on the internet or have a friend show me step by step next time as I have some friends in this activity.

Tuesday 5th Nov – I arrived a bit late so my friends did my wraps real quick before we started the warm up (skipping rope). My left hand was really tight but the right was kind of loose. We did pad work with the coaches and we did certain exercises on the bags. We had stations that would rotate. I tried hard for this lesson so by the end of it, my knuckles were really painful. We did group crunches at the end to wrap up the last lesson of season 1.

Season 1 had wrapped up and I ended up feeling very glad that I participated in this activity. I had persevered on days when I felt exhausted and unmotivated, yet I still continued to work on my fitness. I am satisfied with how I worked and how I motivated myself to keep going when I felt gloomy. This activity was testing my mental strength more than my fitness and I would gladly do this activity again to continue to strengthen myself.

LO1: I had previously done boxing but I wanted to really push myself more than I had before. In ways, this was a new experience to me because of how much effort I put into the training and exercises that we did in this activity.
