Antigone is a story that was written by Sophocles around 441 B.C. In a presentation by my partner Iona I have discovered that although there are not many modern adaptions or representations of Antigone’s story, her story is definitely still around today. It is told today as a cautionary tale which warns us against choosing power over family. Antigone has been analyzed in classes and professionals over the world. It has become a story that is either known or not, however, it is well known in the literature world.
Its significance, as I have mentioned earlier, is more as a cautionary tale and as a piece of literature that has been analysed over and over again. It has been recognised as a tale that talks about how greed and a lust for power can drive a family apart and into ruin. Antigone is related to Odepius, the hero known for killing his father and marrying his mother.
In conclusion, even though it is not a very well known story, it still has shaped our society today in ways that we may not always recognise.
