Service: Coding For Good Reflection #1

This year, I have signed up for Coding For Good, one of the college services. I was there since last year. Last year, I took the role of organizing and running the C4G annual Hackathon, Take Hacktion 2020.

This year, I am going to join the Lost and Found App project. UWC has a database that stores information about all lost items. But adding information directly to the database is complicated and takes a pretty long time for managers. Also, there’s no app/web service for students to see those items on the database. So, the project aims to make an app for managers to be able to upload the item to the database very easily and quickly and another app for students to be able to browse lost items from their phones.

At this moment, we are aiming to make an app for iOS which is the area I have experienced for several years. Yet, the project requires high-level skills such as connecting a phone to the existing database which is made with MySQL. Since I have very little experience with server-side coding, this project will give me a big challenge that will develop new skills. Therefore, I think can earn Learning Outcome 2, “Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.” through this project. Also, since this is a group project, I think I can also achieve Learning Outcome 5, “Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.”.

The project will take a long time to complete but I’m pretty sure, it will bring me to a higher level as an individual and also as a team member.
