Evolution of Media Reflection

What I learned in this assignment was that media is just a more advanced, portable version of older tools. Instead of having many tools for different things, you have one tiny device (your phone) which you carry around everywhere and have access to all your tools. This makes it much easier because you always have access to all the tools and don’t have to think ahead. When you leave your house you don’t have to ask “will I need to bring a clock?” or “will I need my telephone?”.

Here are more examples of tools on our phones that we had before:

Clock app: wall/ wrist clock

Weather: Weather on TV, windsock, weather vane, thermometer etc.

Phone: Payphone, mail, pigeons

Measure app: ruler, rod, body part

In conclusion, the apps on our phone give us tools we have had access to for a long time. In fact, some of the apps are less accurate. For example, a ruler is much more accurate than the measure app. But what makes our phones so great is that we have access to all of them 24/7 and in one place.
