Week #20 – Quizlet – Agasthya +Kieron

Summary:

  • In his lesson, we introduced Quizlet as a learning tool for our clients.
  • We start off by explaining what the purpose of this interactive website was and how we as students use it so heavily in school often.
  • We showed our clients how to make a quizlet, in terms of writing the question/term on the left and then writing the answer/definition on the right.
  • Our clients started to make their very own Quizlet on a topic that they loved, ranging from Singapore facts to cooking recipes to maths problems.
  • After they made at least 5 terms, we created the flashcards and then introduced the different activities hosted by the website which makes the learning of the definitions and questions fun and effective.
  • We looked at “match”, “learn”, “flashcards”, etc.

Week #19 Using an Ipad – Aaman + Prithvi

Summary:

  • Last lesson we changed from our usual set-up and used the school Ipads instead of the laptops.
  •  We started off by introducing the style of navigation for the Ipads to the clients.
  • Many of these clients had never used an Ipad before, therefore all aspects such as the power button the home button had to be introduced.
  • After covering the basics, we introduced the notion of an application and explained what they are used for.
  • We looked at common applications such as the camera, photos, and the notes so that our clients were able to get a rough idea of the practical use of the Ipad in everyday life.
  •  We showed clients how to share the pictures that they had taken, or their notes via email and told them to send it to themselves.
  • We ended the lesson with a bit of fun, introducing a few games such as paint and chess that can be played on the Ipad.

Week #18 Kahoot Creation – Victor and Idan

Summary:

  • Last lesson we had played many different Kahoots, and explained to clients how the interface works
  • Today we focused on making Kahoots
  • We worked with our clients for making their own Kahoots on topics that they are interested in
  • Topics ranged from “Singaporean Foods” to “Pop Culture”
  • At the end of the lesson, we picked a few quizzes for the entire class to play

Week #14 Return of Microsoft Word (Vanshaj + Idan)

In today’s session, we revisited the application Microsoft Word, refreshing on the fundamental skills that we had originally thought in one of our first sessions. We did this as our main goal is to ensure that our clients are able to gain and MAINTAIN all the necessary computer skills that could be used possibly for getting a job in the near future.

We started the lesson from the absolute basics, teaching our clients the way to open the document and a new page. Next, we looked at to change the font specifications such as colour, style, size for a sentence that we told them to write.

Week #13 – Scratch Coding Basics pt 1 – Aayush, Isaac

Summary:

  • Taught them the basic function of scratch, such as movement, touch, and response.
  • Taught them how to change their main character.
  • Taught them how to change the background and other aesthetics.
  • Taught them how to use the move function to move in a certain direction and do a certain action after that.
  • Taught them how to make their character under certain conditions.
  • Taught them how to use other basic functions of scratch.

Week #11 Google forms – Aryan/Prithvi

Summary:

  • How to create a google form
  • How to add questions and type them on the keyboard
  • How to edit a question into different formats
  • How to add an image or a video into the question to give it some context.
  • How to use different types of questions such as long answer, short answer, multiple choice, checkboxes.
  • How to add drawings into questions
  • How to add different pages
  • How to add subtitles and instructions.
  • How to send the form to people.
  • How to check answers and convert them into charts.
