Service Inital Reflection- LO1 & LO3

I decided to sign up for a service in which I could draw upon my various skill sets and previous experiences. I signed up for Swimming with the Hougang Care Centre, where members of the center come to do water activities organised and led by students. I have had previous experiences with people with varying mental abilities as well as teaching people to swim, combined with my love for swimming, I decided that this was the service for me.

After going to the first few initial meetings we had decided on roles in our service where I volunteered to be Co-chair as I’ve had previous leadership experience in various other services. Since many people wanted to have a leadership position we decided on a roster for leadership in which I would co-chair for the second half.  I have previously worked with the CPAS (Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore) where I learnt how to handle difficult situations.

We then had a presentation by the head of the centre and the opportunity to ask some insightful questions. This allowed me to reflect on what my strengths are and my weaker areas were so that I could best understand how to . After asking our questions we then began to plan the activities for our first sessions with the members.
