Project Week Final Reflection

LO 6 Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

Unfortunately, the trip was canceled due to the Covid restrictions. However, after all the research and planning we gained a lot of knowledge about the Smiles of China. Since we are unable to visit their center,  we will raise awareness of the abandoned children in China by creating posters and encourage other students to join the JC, or even raise funds for them. We recognize that the abandoned children is a big issue, hence our original plan was to visits the center and to interact or possibly look after them in person. As the plan can no longer be carried out, we will try our best to do other things that may help the organization such as keep communicating with them to find out what they need and try to do things that we can to help them.

Culturama Interim Reflection

LO 1 Identifying own strengths and develop areas for personal growth

LO 5 Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

After a few rehearsals, we had our dressed rehearsals. It is brand new to me to stand on a stage performing. Even though there were only a few audiences due to the Covid restrictions, I still felt excited when I was on the stage. I am grateful for this experience which allowed me to have a chance of performing which I had never thought I could do.  Since I have never danced before, I met a lot of difficulties memorizing the movements. Luckily, all the group leaders and members are very supportive, we practiced together and go through parts that I need help with.  I can see my improvement over these weeks and I feel more confident towards the actual performance, I believe that will be a great experience and memory of challenging myself as well as working collaboratively with others.

Art club interim reflection

LO 2 Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

In grade 12 I decided to continue joining the Art Club because of the enjoyable experiences that I had last year. I have started a new drawing of a landscape. When brainstorming my next drawing, I just realized how much I love nature and the beauty of the different landscapes. As the drawing required, I learned how to plan the composition of the overall picture beforehand. It is important because the drawing will not look good if the objects are too close or too far from each other, it is important to have a focusing object when drawing.   At first, I find it difficult to draw the grass on the bottom, it turned out that all grass have equal height and width. Hence, I have to repaint the bottom bit and started to plan the composition of grass, some taller, some shorter, some thinner, some thicker. I also use different tones of green to make the drawing more vividly. Even though there is still room for improvement,  but I am satisfied with the final outcome. I learned important techniques from this experience and I feel enjoyable when I can spend time on things that I like and feel restful.

Chinese Chat Final Reflection

LO 3 Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

LO 4 Show commitment to and perseverance in your CAS experiences

After 2 months of joining Chinese Chat, I think I have learned a lot from this experience.  First, it is a brand new experience for me to teach someone as a teacher to plan each session and work with the mentees. I learned from previous sessions and trying to make it better each time. During Chinese Chat, we usually teach middle school students new Chinese characters and make a sentence of it, after a few sessions, I realized that having Chinese conversation with them can also help them to understand phrases or words in context while practicing their speaking skills. I also found teaching interesting, so I had never missed a session. Besides learning new skills in Chinese Chat, I developed some friendships as well. I think we are such a lovely community in which we call collaborate and interact nicely.  All in all, I think I have met learning outcomes 3 and 4 during this experiment and I believe it is something that I am going to continue on in the future.

 

Culturama final reflection

Time flies when you enjoy it. We finished our performance and I believe that was the best experience I have ever. During rehearsals and performances, everyone in the group become friends, and we share such a good memory together. Culturama made me be confident about dancing and I am planning to continue to dance during my spare time. This experience also taught me to keep learning and trying new things, I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment every time I outcome challenges and complete things that I am not good at. I enjoy the experience so much that even hope to do it again with the audience, but that can be something I try next time. 

Culturama initial reflection

Lo 1: Personally, I have never learned dancing before nor performing on a stage. I think by joining culturama this year I developed new skills and challenged myself to tried something new.  Hence, LO1 is met by learning new skills for personal growth.

Lo 5: During 7 rehearsals I enjoy the time to work collaboratively with others. When performing on a stage, it is extremely important to dancing in a uniform way hence collaboratively during each rehearsal is crucial.

I believe I am not a dance person since I was little, I found it hard to coordinate my arms and legs in the right position at the right timing. Hence I am always shy and not confident in terms of dancing. Last year when I watched the culturama show in our school, I was impressed by the amazing dances that have produced in such a short period of time, and I was impressed by the confidence and the beauty of every single dancer. This encouraged me to join culturama this year. During the first two rehearsals, I found it difficult to memorize the movement as well as follow the music, but our group members were very kind and caring, they encouraged me and practiced with me. After that, I developed my interest in dancing, I put more time practicing dance at home and that was a great way for me to release stress. Even though culturama this year will be presented in a virtual way, but I am still delighted and believe that will be a great memory that can be kept forever.
