Grade 9 internals Reflection

The Grade 9 internals has been a helpful guide when determining the accurate ways in which I should acknowledge the upcoming GCSE exams. In retrospect, I feel although there were a few beneficial revision techniques that were most useful when it came to sitting and later receiving the results of the tests: For geography, of which I improved my grade from a 6 from a 7, in my opinion, can be a result of my use of past papers and creating notes of all topics to help aid my revision of case studies and crucial topics. In Regards to Science, I feel somewhat disappointed with my result as I feel that I made many careless mistakes that cost me many marks. However, from this experience, I have learned which revision techniques are most beneficial as well as practicing the ability to remain calm and focused during the exams.

Commitment to care in community

Within the UWC comunity, I believe that commitment to care is a vital part of maintaining harmony between our community. Due to the constant involvement of service in the school, I feel that one’s commitment to care or at least my own personal commitment to care has been integrated into my everyday life, much like an instinct. Although some might argue that service is a ‘chore’ or that it is an extra amount of unnecessary effort, however, I believe, as a UWC student that it is important to recall the purpose of service. To ask oneself “Why do we do service?” and “WHo does service benefit?” and the answer to these questions, often results in the overarching meaning to service that, it takes very little time for us to make a small act of service, and although small, can have a huge impact on the joy of another. Thus, to me, a commitment to care should not be a choice, but rather the weighing of our own wants over another.

Grade 9…so far

The beginning of the year was somewhat stressful considering I was entering a new grade with new privileges and subjects that I would come to manage, however I came to find that the freedom that came with High School is something that I much prefer in contrast to previous year however knowing how to manage this freedom and take leadership with organisation and manage the work from my new subjects is something that I am still trying to manage as the year progresses. Despite the prior stress that came from ensuing I picked the perfect subjects I now feel that I am happy with my chosen subjects and feel that in having the ability to cut out certain subjects from my timetable it has made me consider the potential path of my IB and has given me more confidence in the future. Organisation is something that I have always struggled with as I tend to procrastinate and rush through life without slowing and considering all that needs to be done, however I feel that this is something that I am constantly working on and especially so in the New Year.
