“You didn’t make good choices. You had good choices.”

Little Fires Everywhere:

Elena is a rich, white very privileged person and has been surrounded by these type of people probably her whole like. And there are people like her, who live in a neighbourhood where ‘all people are welcome’ and ‘they don’t see colour, where all people’. This is the mindset we want the world to have, but when it comes from a rich white neighbourhood such as the one Elena is living in, we can see that what there really lining in is a safety bubble. Where they are oblivious to the real problem of inequality and racism because they don’t have to acknowledge it and they don’t have to treat it like the serious matter it is in this modern day because they are able to wipe it away with their big houses, fancy cars and rich friends. By Elena saying ‘i would never make this about race’ just highlights that she is unable to register that it was always about race and that because she doesn’t think she needs to bring it up because she lives in a so-called ‘forward-moving neighbourhood with open-minded citizens’ reveals how they have never had to deal with inequality because they all have so man advantages. This really helps highlight modern-day racism because this is a very common situation happening in America today. Always the nieve who think they can see the clearest, are actually blinded by there own greed.
