So we have come to a close on our week of working with Red Leap. It was an extremely interesting experience and I really enjoyed building upon the learning each lesson.
We focused a lot on creating motif, and the stages that come into play with that. The stages included:
- Embodying an emotion (using physical theatre, experimenting with where the emotion starts and ends in the body and how that builds.)
- Putting that emotion into a sequence of gestures (repeatable separate movements that show that emotion)
- Playing with how the elementals affect each gesture (really fast, really slow, really big, really small)
I thought it was really interesting playing with how an emotion can impact how a body feels, for example when portraying grief it felt heavy in my chest and stomach. I think this technique of creating motif will help bring extra layers to a performance, its also a cool way to include ensemble aspects into the performance.
