On Tuesday the 4th of August I had an interview with Dr.Naree Phinyawatana. During the hour long conversation, Dr.Naree provided expertises on questions about general sustainability, and how she has seen the eco tourism industry develop throughout her career. Naree specialises  in architecture, environmental design, waste reduction, and resource efficiency. She is a graduate of Harvard University, therefore her input was invaluable and extremely insightful for my investigation.

Something particularly interesting that was brought up, was the role of the individual in sustainable resorts. As she described it has become common for hotels to take on sustainable practises such as reducing the waste and offering recycling, or just generally greener options, the next step in the industry is spreading awareness and changing the ideas of customers that stay at hotels. Therefore the visit becomes more personal, and customers understand the reasoning behind sacrificing some of the more luxurious options, for eco friendly ones.

Naree providing a more wide range and broader understanding of may investigating, that can then be streamlined into an Indonesian case study. This broader understanding of sustainability will help me in providing context and breadth in my report.
