Students who are enrolled in IB English B in grade 11 have the option of doing an Extended Essay in English B (only English B students have this option).
The categories are as follows:
Category 1
language
A specific analysis of language, its use, structure, development and so on and is normally related to its cultural context or a specific text.
Category 2A
culture and society
A socio-cultural analysis of a cultural nature that describes the impact of a particular issue on the form or use of the language
Category 2B
culture and society
A socio-cultural analysis of a general cultural nature, but specific to a target language country or community which must be based on specific cultural artefacts.
Category 3
literature
An analysis of a literary type, based on a specific work or works of literature. All works must originally have been written in the target language.
