About Global Perspectives – Lesson 1

Global Perspectives Lesson 1

Podcast:

From the podcast I learnt that GPers is a hard class but it can become very interesting. In this class we will have to write a lot of essays but they can help us understand the subject. We will develop a great skill of being able to write essays which will be helpful in other classes. In this class there will also be a lot of class discussions about many different topics. When you find a topic that you are interested in or passionate about, you become more involved with the discussions and the class becomes more interesting. This whole class is about learning about different perspectives about different topics. We will have to be open-minded and think in different ways to be able to understand things from someone else’s perspective. We will learn about how and why the world is how it is and why we think it is this way. We will find ways on how we can solve conflict and create peace in small parts.

We will have to work with all skills in this class, and sometimes we will have to use them all at the same time. We will develop social skills when discussing.

Perspectives:

Perspective of camera person/me (global/personal):

  • It is as if the stalls are never ending
  • There are lot of people.
  • The colours from the stalls really pop out as the rest of the surroundings are more dull.
  • The camera person would most likely be a tourist so they will be looking at something completely different from their culture.

Perspective of a stall keeper (local):

  • They will see many people walk by and try to get them to buy something.
  • They would only be able to see the top half of people as their stall will be blocking the bottom half.
  • They will see the other stalls/stall keepers as rivals and will try to get as many people to buy something so that they can get more money.

Perspective of someone buying something (local):

  • They will see everything in the stall.
  • The stall keeper will be trying to convince them to buy something.

Personal perspective : Will always be YOU

Local perspective : A person/organisation/NGO/government/newspaper etc. from the same country/area that it is happening

Global perspective : Any person/organisation/NGO/government/newspaper etc. that is not from that country that it is happening
