Swimming with Hougang Care Centre – Initial Reflection

LO3 – Initiative, planning and initiating activities

This year I joined a new local service: swimming with Hougang care centre. This service works with a centre that helps people with mental disabilities. In our first few sessions, we did research on this centre to help us further understand what they do. This included an interview with the head of the centre who provided us with some information on how to work with their members.

After doing significant research on the centre, we were able to begin to come up with activities that they may like to do while we are in the pool. We came up with lots of icebreakers (as one of our goals is to learn everyone’s names) and other activities such as water volleyball, water aerobics etc. These are all things that we think the members will enjoy and ones that we can realistically organise.

We decided that a different pair of people will organise and run each session. My friend and I are organising the second session and are planning to do water aerobics. As the logistics manager, this means that I need someone to bring a waterproof speaker to our session because the school does not have one that we can use.
