What are some of the key takeaways you have since beginning to study the play?

Theatre was a very significant part of Greek traditions, and at the time it was relevant as the morals of the plays were relevant, even now. Also, the plays were a form of worshipping and a sacred practice. Nowadays, theatre is treated more as a form of entertainment.

Different tragedies have similar characteristics. We can see many overlapping features and themes between Oedipus the King and Romeo and Juliet. This can include structural features such as the chorus, or it can include features of the plot. For example, the main protagonist of the play is said to be a realistic character, where they are neither cruel or perfect. This can be seen in both of the plays, and also can be noticed in many other pieces of work.

Going back to the relevance of morals, these ancient plays can stay relevant until now as the characters still portray society. Of course, the play can be adapted and adjusted to fit better with the social norms of the era, but the characteristics of Oedipus remain relevant. His flaws and his achievements very closely portray man, which makes the storyline still somewhat relatable.
