Cross country LO2,LO4,LO1

I started cross country last year in grade 10, it was mostly an impulse decision, and I didn’t hate it. Which is why this year I am going t be doing cross country for the next two seasons, with the intention of making the seasac team. Cross country will contribute to my activity for my CAS for my IB course. I feel cross country is an extremely hard sport to maintain, as if you stop running for a month, or even two weeks, you will become slower. It is not only a sport that relies on your fitness but it also mainly relies on your mental game; as you are going to be running using your core for 5 km and out of experience that 5 km where you really push it, takes a heap of mental energy. But the final feeling that you gain after you have done that 5k is extremely well deserved. I finished cross country in the SEASAC team as the reserved runner, with high hopes for SEASAC next year.

Unfortunately, this year our usual KL trip has been cancelled due to the virus, which is extremely disappointing; however, I will keep on training even tho this season is over. But thanks to all of this training, I am now faster and more fit when it comes to my running. And I will keep on moving this forward. My overall goal is to improve my running for longer distance such as 5k, which currently I am 19:24, and I am hoping to break sub 19 soon.

I started track and field last year in grade 10, with the main intention of staying in running shape for cross country. But this year the track and field season has changed up a little but due to the covid-19 virus. We used to train on a track next to school, but unfortunately because of the virus, we now have to train in the school bus bay, plaza or field. But this still doesn’t change things or my perspective over track and field. I will stick with the activity as overall even though we don’t have any meet ups or our usual KL trip for acsis, the physical training is still worth it.

Unfortunately this year, due to covid 19, our trip has been canceled, due to safety reasons. Even though our trip was cancelled, we still had to plan a lot to make sure our stay, our flights, actives were all cancelled. This was extremely for us, as we had spent around 2 to 3 months planning all of this data. The worst part at the time was the fact that project week was one of the key moments of grade 11s, and not being able to do this really effected many people mentally. However due to the fact that I lived in the boarding house with most of the people I was going to go on project week with, it didn’t effect us as bad, as instead of complaining how we were not going to have project week, we took the opportunity to planned other trips in our home countries after grade 12.

Throughput the process of setting this all up, I truly understood the meaning of team work. We had an unpresidential of work to plan, but once divide among a group of 5 of us, it soon became much easier to do so. We planned everything from our budget to our Itinerary. We planned a whole trip for 5 of us, from the taxi to the airport to the taxi back. We planned our insurance, our stay, our flights, the activities, all of this below the budget of 1000 each person.

My project week group consisted of my friends in the boarding house. We had planned to stay at a homestay at Pejarakan village near to Biosphere Foundations field station Pejarakan is in the North West of Bali very close to the National Park. During our stay we were going to be introduced to the work of Biosphere Foundation and will participate hands on, in some of the community conservation activities that the foundation is supporting. We aimed to understand the goal work of Biosphere Foundation to preserve the natural habitat of the National Park in Bali, and once educated on their goal; help educate others on the same the goal it self.

I finally had a 5k time trial, I actually had multiple and I was able to reduce my times from, 19:20 to 18:45 to 18:28 and currently 18:07. The runnings at this runners club has truly helped me improve my 5k times, and I feel more confident for the 5k inter UWC race. This will basically be the UWC east running students vs the UWC dover running students. I have learnt a lot from the runners club, such as recovery and cool down and how important these two things are, technically as important as a hard session it self

So far the training it self has been pretty tough. I can feel my self improving however I haven’t yet done a 5k so far where I can time my self. In a few months this club will be opening to more students and soon enough, it will be open to every student in the school to join. Slowly the training it self has been becoming more competitive with some of students, however, this is good for training and will overall help me further on improve my time.
