For global concerns, I chose a community that I can relate with in some way. As an Indonesian person, I have always been concerned with the state of my country, as a lot of places in Indonesia are facing challenges in various aspects. The Island Foundation is concerned with the Riau islands, where a local villageĀ is struggling significantly due to their relocation by the government. The village used to be located in a watery environment, so moving to a grounded village poses difficulties: different occupations, low economical status, and lack of education. Even though I am accustomed to the fact that these problems exist all around Indonesia, hearing the story of this village makes me more aware of the issue more deeply. From the perspective of UWCSEA, this Global Concern involves an international service, but I see it as a local issue; something close to my identity.
