Grade 11 Exam Reflection

After receiving feedback from my paper 1 grade 11 exam, I was pleased to see progress from my past written responses as I have made an effort to work on previous areas of improvement. Going forward, I have a couple of key objectives to work on for my next piece of analysis:

Goal 1: My primary takeaway from this assessment is to avoid making ‘stretch mistakes’. This is where I have strayed too far away from the purpose and underlying meaning of the text and drew too tenuous of a conclusion. For example, I made a reference to the Singapore flag as a symbol of national identity based off the fact that the individuals on the left wore red and the one of the right wore white. I think it is important to acknowledge that there are more pertinent arguments to be made in limited time, instead of interpretations that may take it too far.

Goal 2: As I go forward, I should also like to pay closer attention to the specific names of the techniques used in order to better support my analysis. Even if I used literary and visual devices in the right context, referring to them with more technical and precise terminology creates a more compelling argument. For example, I failed to identify the techniques ‘parallelism’, ‘fricative’ and ‘qualifier’ which would have further enhanced my response.
