Marimbas CAS Reflection 2 (#LO2)

Tuesday the 14th was my second session playing the marimbas this year, and in order to pick up some momentum we immediately started learning the first section of a new piece. When undertaking a new endeavour (in this case an ensemble), it is important to remain attentive but also patient with myself. One of my greatest weaknesses when going outside of my comfort zone is maintaining a positive mindset in the face of adversity or struggle. Although learning a new piece is certainly a minor example, not getting caught up in the embarrassment of my imperfections as a learner is crucial to allow for positive growth. For instance, when coming in slightly early to play a note, this lesson I made a particular effort to laugh it off and resume concentration. My hope is that going forward I use this skill of resilience and a progressive outlook as a muscle in my other CAS experiences, as I have heard that positivity can strengthen with use. At this stage in time playing in a marimba ensemble, the risks I’m taking are relatively insignificant, therefore I plan to use these preparatory stages to enhance my character as a performer and worker with creativity.
