In the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, times are unpredictable, and the rhythm of life has altered drastically for all of us. We have been forced to make changes to our daily schedule that could be extended for a really long time – many of them being a complete hindrance. Still, it is important to always bear in mind that every change we make is for the greater good. One way to brighten up our daily (likely monotonous) lives is to help one another and extend communities in alternative manners. For example, even here in Singapore every week many people come outside to clap for all the doctors and nurses – inspired by the movement #ClapforNHS. This is just one way entire nations can show gratitude for all that’s being done. What’s more, it’s important to get creative and find new ways to keep fit in the home too. There have been countless videos of collective fitness classes of people on their driveways across the whole neighbourhood street, online workout classes, even EDM raves on people’s balconies. What I’ve found is that the primary way this ‘helping’ movement has been communicated is through social media platforms. Whether it’s reading about these acts and reciprocating them or even video calling your grandparents to brighten their day, the online space has really elevated the connection we all desire during these times.
