DRAMA JOURNAL POSTS

We did a performance last week, and this is my introspection about it.

We want to use objects to represent beliefs or pain that we cannot see, which is difficult to do. In addition to, we need to make the audiences know what we are doing, rather than having them look at us in a daze and feel that we are doing something weird. Thus, what I’m most proud of is the following symbols.

  1. Candles- represent the development of the storyline, the candles were off at the beginning of the performance, which suggests the pain of the unknown. The candles light up at the end of the story, which suggests the hope and a bright future.
  2. Organza (white+black)- the white organza represents the hope, and the black one shows the despair.
  3. Rope- it represents the wave, it shows the level of pain as well. There’s two men pulled the rope and started to move it up and down. The waves that came from the swaying of the rope was getting bigger and bigger, it showed a sea which becomes more and more dangerous. The sounds we heard when the rope hit the ground was getting louder and louder, it represented the feeling of pain. This movement had happened three times in the performance.

I think our idea was great, but I know that my personal performance was not good. I could not  control my smile and I don’t know why. I influenced our performance. For this, I feel very guilty. Of course, I will do better next time. 😉
