Softball Bangkok Tournament

Over the weekend our Softball team flew to Bangkok to play a friendly tournament, which would act as a replacement for the SEASAC competition that we forfeited due to events currently taking place in the host country, Myanmar. Before we left I made the goal of playing the best I could in every game there and to keep a positive attitude after every mistake so I wouldn’t jeopardise any future plays with my negative mindset. In a way, I think that my goal was accomplished because our very first game, I think I played the best I ever have. Our team was overall very collaborative and focused and we had a fun time too. I made some fielding plays that I was very proud of including a double play as well as a few quick recoveries that ultimately resulted in outs. I was very proud of our first game and not so much the others, but if I keep playing and thinking the way I did in that initial game, not only would I improve my skills, but also the mindset that I bring to each and every game I play.

Learning Outcomes: LO1 (Self-Awareness), LO2 (Challenges)

We lost our game against Bangkok Patana School on the final day. I will admit that their team is very strong and for this reason I think that we couldn’t have won any game against them. What we need to work on collectively as a team is batting and being able to choose the pitches and adjust out hits to them. This has proven to be especially challenging because as someone who once considered herself to be quite a good hitter, I now think that it’s one of my weaknesses. In order to improve, I want to make sure that my technique for hitting becomes a habit and to do so I am going to practice more regularly. Filming myself and watching it over wold also be helpful in ensuring I have the right form. The next step for me would be to work on where I place the ball when I hit. I used to be able to do this but as my technique and drive decreased, so did my control. For this I need to make sure that I master how to properly hit, then work on the positioning of my body towards the different places I want to aim.
