Mr. Silverthorne was a principal of a school in England, and didn’t have much knowledge about other countries and their school and culture. An idea was proposed to set up a relationship with another school, and he chose a school run by a man who took in orphans. The next step was to visit the country. When Mr. Silverthorne heard about going to Rwanda, these images came into his head of what it would be like, and it wasn’t very pleasant. Even though he had never been to Rwanda, he had these preconceived ideas of what it was like. When he got there, it was nothing like he had thought, it had lush green trees, and was very developed. During his experience, he learned about other’s culture, and the importance of being informed and aware of the things around you.
