Mandala reflection.

Recently, in global perspective, we wrote mandalas which were a reflection of our identity. It was for the culmination of our unit on different identities.we closely studied influences that shape our identity, found symbols related to it and discussed their effects on our lives.

I  mostly chose spiritual symbols as they’ve had the strongest impact on my life due to various influences like my mother, my culture and on the basis of people that I observed around me.

After the activity, I’ve set a few goals for myself- I would undoubtedly want to further reflect upon why and how my personality was influenced by different things.I want to observe barriers that prevent me from achieving my full potential. To achieve this goal, I would further dig deep into previous years of my life and find possible evidences that would help trace out ways to go about the situation.I would also ask people close to me who have observed a change in personality and try to draw possible conclusions that would help back up my observation.

Once I’m able to gather and process this information, hopefully, the reflection created on my identity would be a more sophisticated piece with good details and evidence.A success indicator would be when I would be able to notice the change in my personality, observe what I really am and accept myself for what I am.

PUPPET REFLECTION

Puppetry.

I remember making paper and tape puppets inspired by the national theatre artists.Initially, it was really hard to twists the paper and make the puppet but after a million failed attempts we produced a beautiful hand puppet. Although ours was comparatively smaller than life sized ones, we still managed to give it human properties. As the class progressed, we learnt the art of manipulation on the puppets, we started off with simple gestures like breathing and walking but transformed those into more complex actions by piecing those fragments of movement onto a story board. This ultimately got us into storytelling with the puppets and we created threads of stories with them. I think I was very happy with the final result and I learnt a lot of technique in the session.

The next class we watched a video of another theatre company who were producing the LION KING.OUR CHILDHOOD.Nothing ever made me more excited than watching creative artists and technicians make breath taking puppets of Simba, Mufasa and Scar. As unbelievable as the puppets looked from a distance, they were completely astonishing from up close too, with all the intricate detailing. It instantly made a nostalgic connect with me as a member watching from outside .

we culminated our puppetry sessions by trying out masks ourselves and creating unrealistic scenarios by using our physicality. It was an extremely innovative experience for us as drama students and I’m looking forward to learning more in the future.
