Maths and Me

My name is Pranav Harish. I joined the school last year in 10FIB, and I did Add Math with Mr. Stirrat. I did MYP maths before coming to UWC, from grades 6-9. The feelings that I usually associate with mathematics are those of stress and anxiety as maths is not my strong subject, nor is it something that I particularly enjoy. However, I find myself someone who enjoys putting as much effort as I can into doing maths because I know it is not my strongest suit, so I have to work harder if I want to be successful in this class. I feel nervous about starting this course, but at the same time excited for the applications part of the course as I find it interesting to see how maths is applied to real world situations, something I think is a useful skill to have in the ever changing world today. When I am “stuck” in mathematics, I rely on my friends a lot to help me because sometimes I find it easier to have a friend who understands the concepts thoroughly much easier than asking the teacher, although I do use the teacher’s help a lot as well. My biggest strength in learning maths would be being collaborative; I see maths as an opportunity to help others as well as receive help, and this is something I think I will focus on the first few weeks as I get to know the people in my class as well.
