Marc Nair’s Journey in Singapore as a Poet

Asia

I chose this image because it shows a general Asia and I feel that because Nair has grown up in Asia, many of his poems are focussed around Asia.

Book

I chose this image because he told us a lot about his books and how they have developed and improved over the years which I found very interesting.

Speaking

I chose this image because it represents how Nair likes to voice his opinions and how ‘writing against’ is his way of speaking up against people.

I chose this image of a camera because it shows how photography and imagery links into his poetry and is connected to it.

Today we listened to Marc Nair, an Indian-Chinese poet who has grown up in Singapore talk about his journey through writing poetry in Singapore and the responses he has gotten. I originally didn’t realise that his photography would be linked to poetry, I thought it would just have been another one of his interests that he kept separately from writing. I found it very interesting to learn how he uses images and poetry to convey a deeper meaning and also will use images as the inspiration for a poem.
