Engagement activity intial reflection

The IB Global politics course that I take allows us to actively engage in a political issue and deepen our understandings of it. For my engagement activity, I chose my political issue as the migrant workers in Singapore, and what kind of challenges they face. I have two reasons I decided to base my engagements on this issue. Firstly, I wanted to choose a political issue to do with Singapore, because I would probably not be living here long and thought this would be a good opportunity to learn about this country. Secondly, since I only came to Singapore last year, I was very surprised by the fact that there were so many workers that were working in tough environments, and that they were not Singapore citizens. I saw the workers often, even in very hot days where I felt it very tough to walk only for a short while. Since I had not faced these sights before where I used to be, I became very interested in this issue. To learn more about it and also to help them in the small ways I can, I decided to set this issue of migrant workers in Singapore as my political issue. I hope I can get a thorough understanding at this end of this engagement.
