Lessons from Football

Upon the end of the football season last year, a few players, including myself, were invited to train with the high school team, despite still being in middle school. This year, I tried out for the team, and although I didn’t make the first team due to the large number of older girls, I have learnt many skills which I can take forward- not only in sports, but throughout my life. I have gained a lot more experience by getting more game time, and have even lead the team. This has caused me to develop my communication and leadership skills further. Additionally, I believe that I have grown more resilient and always fight, even when the odds are against me. This can be seen in the last match of the season when our team was two goals down in the second half, but managed to make a comeback and score six goals in the last twenty minutes.

I will continue to keep playing, and hope to make it onto the first team next year. I intend to ensure that next year with be as valuable as this year was.
