Maths & Me – Written Response

My past experiences in math include CIM Mathematics and Additional Mathematics in iGCSE. I have a genuine interest in maths as I like how diverse a subject it is. I like that it sometimes has a repetitive structure, yet simultaneously allows for investigations into various topics. I am fairly confident going into the SL Mathematics course because I feel that maths is one of my stronger subjects and is one that, at times, enjoy being challenged in.

Majority of the time, I feel like I need to try and practice on my own in order to fully understand certain concepts.Though not afraid to ask for guidance when I face challenges in mathematics, I tend to feel responsible for my own growth as a learner. Therefore I like to deepen my understanding and strengthen my skills through making mistakes and persevering – with others pointing out when I’ve made mistakes.

I think I am a good self-manager in maths because I set personal goals to develop my existing strengths and also improve on my weaknesses. I am organised and I know what I need to prioritise to ensure that I am maximising my learning. Yet, an area of focus for the next few weeks of G11 is to inquire and ask more questions – beyond just accepting certain rules, concepts, etc. This way, I feel like I will grow as a mathematician and hopefully also improve my problem solving skills.

Thank you for sharing this Dhrithika. You have a good background in maths so you should enjoy the SL course. Do reach out when you get bogged down and experience any difficulties. Have a great 2 years ahead.
