Now that I am in grade 11 and have received my grade for this piece and process, I truly believe I should’ve gotten a higher mark. However, I really enjoyed going through the art course throughout grades 9 and 10. Art still continues to be a huge passion of mine even though I am not continuing with it through IB. This piece was very special to me personally because it conveys a struggle I’ve had with my appearance since I was young. Growing up in the US for twelve years, I had a beauty standard in my mind of how a ‘beautiful’ person should look. It mainly was about having a thin and tall nose, a perfectly round chin whilst maintaining a sharp and jawline, eyes deep enough perfectly dab eyeshadow on.  I never looked fully Korean or fully Chinese– because I wasn’t — which had a bit of tension over my identity in general. Using the prompt fragments, I tried to convey the idea that replacing a part of you with a different feature will not make you more beautiful. The bright colors placed on each of the three outer subjects are symbolic of the inner beauty each individual has and the grey is demonstrative of how we try to obscure it within society.[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column]
