UWCSEA has provided a myriad of opportunities for me, not only to enhance my creativity but also to increase the physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle and strengthen my passion for service. CAS stands for creativity, activity, and service- these three types of activities are obligatory to participate in, during the last 2 school years I have left before graduation. Before planning out my CAS journey, I decided to begin to linger a moment about my passions, strengths, qualities, and areas of growth.
To begin, I am an ardent supporter of refugee education and have been part of a focus group called ‘Amala’, previously known as, ‘Sky School’ for the past two years. Amala is a global high school for displaced youths, created in response to the critical issue of refugee education. I strongly feel that education should be compulsory and provided for everyone regardless of their “status”, skin color, race..etc. However, a focus group is an activity that I join out of complete passion and choice as it is not classified as a service, in other words, services only include local, college services, and global concerns. Although I haven’t made a final decision yet, I am contemplating between a local service that I was part of last year called ‘Lion Befrienders games and activities with the Elderly’ and ‘Voices for Refugee’s’ which is a global concern that also focuses on refugee empowerment and connects perfectly to the aims of Amala.
The top three qualities that I would describe myself as being tenacious, conscientious, and optimistic. I believe that using these qualities, CultuRama would be suitable creativity and physical exertion activity that I can undertake. Last year, I was part of the Culturama India performance, which I enjoyed every aspect of, despite the fact that we had to surmount several challenges, I loved the zealous environment and resolute mindsets of everyone there. In addition, I enjoy playing different musical instruments such as piano, flute, and violin, however, I decided to continue learning the flute and currently am preparing for my upcoming flute exam in December. I was also part of the HS Jazz Band last year, in which I was able to participate in various concerts, however we were unable to perform at the esplanade due to the unforeseen consequences of the COVID-19 Pandemic. This year, I would like to take part in the HS Orchestra, where I’m not only able to build stronger relationships with others, but am also able to solidify the skills that I already have with playing the flute.
Ultimately, I am looking forward to taking part in various activities and services, not just for CAS, but for my own benefit and to grow as an individual. I believe that CAS will provide a myriad of different opportunities and unforgettable experiences that I will take with me even after I graduate.
