Do we have a right to tell another persons story?

I think that it is possible to do so as that is the way we have lived for the past centuries. Shakespeare the world-renowned author allegedly plagiarised his work and yet we still teach in schools about his genius and depict him as a poetic god. We have the tendency to tell other people’s story and that doesn’t always have to be a bad thing. Raising awareness of issues and unknown situations around the world are often made into movies or documentaries, despite the profit made the growth of awareness int eh issue really helps as a starting step to solve the problem. We grow as writers and readers in this as some people do not have the ability to tell their stories and telling others stories help do that.

Extending on this, after talking about this more in class I started to think more about how we all as writers have to talk about perspectives that we do not understand. It really limits our ability to portray perspectives if we are not allowed to talk about other people. However, I believe there is a line when people talk about things that they haven’t been apart of for the wrong reasons. If a person tries to do research into black history and learns as much as one can, and then as a white man writes about a black character it is okay. But if you base a character of your imagination made up of stereotypes and prejudices it is not fair and your ability to talk about that perspective of a race should be revoked.
