Issue of representation

In The help, there are issues about misrepresentations such as how the book may not accurately represent the situation of the help in the south. To me, this seems like a compilation of interviews that merely gives an insight on each of the individuals lives and experiences, as Skeeter only gets about a dozen interviews. The number of interviews done probably would not make up one percent of the black help population in the south. Audiences should read it as the experiences of each person instead of the whole image of the south. The book Skeeter writes could potentially be misrepresenting a whole population.
Experiences are personal and i do not think opinions, experiences (that have bias) can ever represent a whole situation.

  1. You think like a scientist, Izumi, which is not a bad thing —but how could statistics measure the quality of life for these maids? If we included an anedcote from every woman, it would be too long to read . . . Can there never be such a thing as a representative sample? How can we assure ourselves that the small sample reflects the whole?

    I like that you don’t just assume fairness . . .
