My favorite book is called “Boys Without Names” by Kashimira Sheth. I read this book a few years ago and my favorite book has not changed since. It is about an Indian boy called Gopal who is living under poverty and trying to find a job to help his family. They moved from a rural town to Mumbai in hopes of finding a better life, however, Gopal gets caught by a stranger who enslaves him. He meets other child slaves and tries to figure out how they can escape. Before Gopal joins the other boys, they did not know each other’s name and has never talked to each other but Gopal acts as a catalyst to create a friendly relationship. I love his leadership and the way he deepened their relationship by telling each other stories and working collaboratively to find a way to escape. When I read this book for the first time, it was interesting to see how he plans the escape as his creative thinking was different from what I was expecting. I also liked his love and care for other slaves and his determination to free others. This book made me want to develop my leadership and communication skills since I am shy and I believe that his character is the ‘ideal’ to create positive impacts on other people’s life.
