Post-CultuRama Reflection

CultuRama is over! It was an experience that I will truly miss. It saddens me to think that the highlights of my weeks are now over, but it also excites me for future opportunities I get.

In the first post about CultuRama, I mentioned a challenge being making the steps look authentic with technique. I was particularly nervous about the Indian dance as I was not very confident in the steps. USA also had a song change and a few steps changed in order to suit the new timing, so I was nervous that I would mess up during the final performance. However, when the actual time of the performance came, I think that I managed to execute it well.

The hardest part for me when it came to the actual performances was staying relaxed when I was in the wings, waiting to come on stage. That to me is the most stressful and nerve-wrecking part of the experience. However, once I actually get on stage and the music starts, I can’t help but to smile and enjoy the flow of the movements (LO4).

CultuRama has exposed me to many parts of culture that I wasn’t that familiar with, for example the Bhangra and Gerda in the Indian dance. When watching other people’s performances, you can truly see the power of bringing people of different cultures together through dance. I am excited for next year’s CultuRama and hope to explore new dances from new countries I’ve never been in before.
