Bintan Service Trip Podcast:

Grade 10 FIB students have recently travelled to Bintan, Indonesia as a task in a Global Perspectives class. The task was to design a 60 minutes lesson for young children in Bintan (7-9 or 10-12) regarding various crucial topics with the help from The Island Foundation (TIF). With the aim of supporting the local community and providing a valuable lesson to the children, the lesson seeks to develop children’s 21st Century skill – Critical thinking, confidence, and collaboration.

This podcast includes the reflections before and after the lesson and highlights from the lesson to the children, as well as SWOT analysis of the lesson. (Audio of the surroundings at Mutiara resort as well!)

The Island Foundation is a registered charitable organization in Singapore. Their aim is to create a “lasting change by educating the next generation of Indonesia’s coastal communities”. The goal of their Education and Literacy Program is to produce a lasting change in life prospects : economic success, improved health, better nutrition, and protection of the local environment. They hope to create a new generation of resourceful, resilient, problem solvers who have the confidence to work in different environments.

The task of planning and delivering the lesson to the young children in local villages in Bintan, Indonesia would not have been possible without the help from TIF. Click here to learn more about their impact on the local communities and how YOU can support them.

As a student in UWCSEA, each of us pursue the goal of “embracing the entire world across all divides of race, history, culture, wealth, religion, economic status, and political belief.” As part of the UWC Movement, we also hope to achieve the common mission : to make education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.
