Global issue: power imbalance between men and women + importance of female empowerment
– power imbalance between men and women are explicitly shown in both texts. Saint Hoax ad shows how men hold more power in the relationship (as a result of societal power) than woman through the woman’s dependence of her husband. Carol Ann Duffy’s “Little Red Cap” focuses on the power men possess in the relationship especially if it is a sexual relationship.
– Female empowerment is somewhat inferred from the Saint Hoax ad. This is because it simply shows how there is gender inequality in the household rather than the need for empowerment. However, the ad being the parody of what Donald Trump said suggests that the purpose of the ad is in fact to empower women by mocking the fact that nothing much has changed in terms of gender inequality. On the other hand, Duffy explicitly advocates for female empowerment as she forcefully provides voice to the female character- the idea of the woman who doesn’t really have voice in the original story having some extent of power and eventually gaining independence from the man.

the exaggeration of the woman having power through Duffy’s subversion

the purpose of both texts – society where both genders are treated equally

similar idea suggested by Saint Hoax – women are supposed to stay home and cook when men are supposed to work for the family + women having to “serve” the food to their husband
