LO5- Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively

After a few weeks of this service, I really started to understand what we did in it and how to plan a session. Our group is quite well organised and this helps us a lot. Since they’re around 19 kids and only 9 of us, collaboration is key in order to make sure the kids are developing their skills and make the most out of a session. At the same time, we all need to discuss how to make sure the activity is safe for the children to use since they’re very young and some equipment is quite dangerous. I have learnt new skills such as different types of jumping and rolling. Furthermore, I know how to use most of the equipment and can support the children to make sure they don’t get hurt. All of us help each other when we’re unsure of how to use a piece of equipment safely. Furthermore, we improvise a lot every session. Sometime the gymnasium isn’t available and we have to plan new activities on the day itself. Everyone gives their own opinion on how we should run the activity and then we all reach a mutual decision. Teaching young children some of these skills is quite challenging because they get distracted at times and don’t fully understand the risks. However we are trying our best to make sure we teach them skills they can use in the future.
