The Story of My Learning Starts Here

English reflection : Religion in Politics in Persepolis

  1. “The only place I fell safe was in t\\ohe arms of my friend”
  2. “I love the king. He was chosen by god. That’s what it says on the first page of our schoolbook.”
  3. ” Since the dawn of time, dynasties have succeeded each other but the kings have always kept their promises. The Shah kept none.”

I have selected quote 2 and I will be defending how it is morally just by Satrapi’s initial portrayal of Marji as a believer in god and that everything happens for a reason. The current regime that had been taking place had an intention to brainwash children into thinking that god chose them and it would be unacceptable for children to go against god. Therefore, the current regime had implemented a fierce system where everyone would believe in god. This, in my opinion, is justified because prior to The Shah regime there was a lot of controversy taking place and in an attempt to maintain political power in Iran it was essential that they had got the majority of people to agree with their beliefs. The way SatrapiĀ  had said that “it was in our schoolbooks” shows that religion is an important subject in Iran and that religious empowerment is a defining factor in political involvement in the country.
