MINDS AMK

In my junior year, I worked with Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS), an organisation that provides a community center and facilities for adults with special needs and intellectual disabilities. Each week, I collaborated with my peers to develop activities to engage with the members of this community and build meaningful connections with them. It was important to be respectful and engaged, as to not overstep any boundaries and be mindful of their sensitivities to certain activities.

To make the sessions successful, my peers and I incorporated drums into the session, as it was something that the members of the community enjoyed doing  Additionally, we introduced a new activity which was finger painting to our service partners. This exercise allowed us to bond with the community at MINDS on a creative level, which is much more interactive than the activities we conducted with them in the past. Being able to work with people of different mental abilities has been an enlightening experience which has required patience and dedication, but I have also learned a lot from these sessions.
