Comparing the book ‘Homefire’ and the photography work of Yumna Al-Arashi is interesting because they take very similar approaches on similar issues, however the work is very different. For example, the manner in which Aneeka challenges stereotypes in her sexual activity with Eamonn. Whereas, the photos challenge stereotypes in showcasing a woman’s individuality. I think in the book the author aims to convey the messages through character relationships with other characters. On the other hand, the photos aim to do the same thing through an individual versus society approach. I think they are both effective in their own ways because it is important to portray both an individual going against prejudice by themself and showing the same thing with close relationships.
