Act 4 – The War

ACT 4

  • This act seems to be more dramatic in nature as compared to the earlier acts, resembling more of a tragedy than a comedy.
  • You can see the idea of French pride, culture coming out in the food and the song, you can see the unifying nature of it, probably to rile up the spirits of the French after they loss the war.
  • Keep audience on their toes by introducing Roxane, the interaction with food of the Spanish
  • We see a lot about Roxane’s character, while she is smart in witty she’s blinded by her emotions.
  • Cyrano’s selflessness is clear, even upon knowing Roxane would gladly be with him, he chooses to let Christian die thinking she chose him, and doesn’t reveal to Roxane the truth.
  • Filled with tiny funny moments to break tension, using the pig roast to fight, the soldiers carrying De Guiche cut by the canon-ball falling.
  • Dramatic irony heavy
