Changes at AMK

Today is the end of the first term, and we did a SWOT analysis of our work in AMK for the past couple of months we have been working with them.

Strengths

  • Colouring activity is quite effective, helps with developing motor skills of the client.
  • Flexible and innovative when a problem occurs such as missing drums or lack of printed pictures.
  • We communicate and collaborate well together.
  • We are trying our best
  • We have adapted to our new environment, and have not shied away from interacting intimately with the clients
  • Material such as colouring pencils and papers are always prepared beforehand.
Weaknesses

  • Drumming activity, it needs more structure to the activity
  • The clients are largely unresponsive, making it difficult for us to engage with them even we want to

Opportunities

  • Find or create activities that may engage the clients motor skills more. Eg. dancing or bowling.
  • Puzzles or creative activities.
  • Could integrate new activities such as balloons and ball games to help with fine motor skills.
  • Learning their names so we can address them – closer relationship

Threats

  • Clients can be quite unpredictable with physical contact.
  • Unreliable numbers
  • We may look unenthusiastic towards to the employees at AMK minds during some days.
  • Some of the more capable clients have left, and the total size of the client base has reduced, which leaves us with fewer things to do

Even though the main focus of the service is drumming we’d really benefit from another more creative way to work their motor skills, as the drumming gets repetitive and the clients don’t get as much as they could from it.
